The End of the Road for the UK
As expected, Rachel Reeves’ spending review took just a couple of hours to begin unravelling. Having claimed that additional spending could now be made because of the unexpected 0.7% GDP growth in the first quarter (itself largely a statistical mirage) Reeves was left to explain a 0.3% fall in GDP in April. The expectation among the professional-managerial class is that yet another round of tax increases is inevitable, including big rises in local taxes. Critics, however, point out that the raft of tax increases which began in April are among the biggest causes of falling GDP in the first place – the other being the loss of exports to the USA after the artificial, tariff-beating rise in the first quarter.
This Time There’s No Fix

The world defeated the inflation of the 1970s with sharply positive real interest rates (that is, rates higher than inflation). They were able to do this because most major governments were in good financial shape, with, by today’s standards, minimal debt and low deficits.
That’s not the case today. Double-digit interest rates would bankrupt a global constellation of debtors, bringing on another Great Depression. But aggressively cutting interest rates will spike inflation, causing currencies and related debt instruments to crash. Which leaves us with exactly zero tools capable of fixing the above problems. What’s coming, while similar in shape to the 1970s, will be vastly scarier.

The Rent-A-Protest racket honestly demands that the BarnYardAnimals be unaware that they are being farmed out: they must be fanatic, earnest, sincere and ready to step in front of a moving 3000-pound car to make their ... errh ... what was their point anyhoo <squissshhh>
You need the inspiration of a stampede, where any herd animal who does not go along with the "protest" is trampled and left behind for the coyotes and vultures (clean-up crew). Likewise, the uniformed militarized line of National Guard, Marines, tac squad or whoever - they can be cast as analogous to the slaughterhouse workers. No passion, no emotion, just doing a hard job, slathered in blood'n'guts.
I propose to travel to Taiwan, where there are hundreds of entrepreneurial electronics makers, and see who would like to manufacture and market a tiny-but-powerful EMP generator, something like a joy buzzer in the pocket of an innocent bystander, one which would go off silently - and instantly fritz out all the cameras, bullhorns, car ignitions, cell phones - whatever has a chip in it, sending them permanently O.N...T.H.E...B.L.I.N.K. Fun times all around.
