Gazprom seeks to raise Russia's domestic gas prices
MOSCOW, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Russian gas giant Gazprom (GAZP.MM), opens new tab, squeezed by plunging sales abroad as the Ukraine conflict prompts European buyers to turn away, is seeking to raise regulated prices at home to fund investment, Interfax news agency reported on Thursday.
Gazprom incurred losses of almost $7 billion in 2023, its first annual loss in more than 20 years, amid dwindling gas trade with Europe, once its main sales market.
The company is now focused on boosting gas exports to Asia, especially to China, as a part of Moscow's pivot to the East.
President Vladimir Putin announced last week that Gazprom planned to supply Iran with up to 55 billion cubic metres of gas per year, on par with the damaged Nord Stream 1 pipeline capacity.
At home, Russia's domestic gas prices are regulated by the government.
"The current level of regulated wholesale gas prices does not ensure the formation of financial resources in amounts sufficient to make the necessary capital investments in the maintenance and development of gas infrastructure in the interests of Russian consumers," Interfax cited Alexei Sakharov, a Gazprom senior manager, as saying.
This raises a few questions:
Is Russia running into the same depletion problems as Norway and Shale?
Was the Nord Stream pipeline ‘sabotage’ faked for the purpose of covering up the depletion of Russian gas production? As we are aware, governments prefer to lie rather than tell the barnyard animals that we are fucked. See New Zealand.
Similarly, is the Ukraine War fake? It serves the dual purpose of explaining away the inability to supply the European market and it provides and an excuse for relentless energy inflation in Europe.
We have been told that Ukraine has halted Russian gas exports to it’s crucial benefactor - Europe, yet Europe continues to send billions of dollars in aid and weapons to Ukraine. Duh. None of this is logical. Unless of course, Russia does not have enough gas to be able to supply Europe and it is best not to let the barnyard animals know that we are fucked.
What readers must understand is that The Men Who Run the World and their Ministry of Truth have no interest in telling the barnyard animals the truth. In fact they accept that they must tell soothing lies to the morons - that they must feed the morons hopium including The Three Pillars of Bullshit.

It's all a madoff / sam bankman fraud type giant swindle
I've posted my opinions on ZH, OFW and on Substack that the US, NATO, and China quietly realize they can not fight a continental war like WWI or WWII because they simply don't have the logistics, i.e diesel and materials to so any more. It will be missiles, bombs... and soldiers delivered to the killing fields by ox cart. Putin I think quietly realizes this which is why he pulled out of Syria and is going very slowly in the UKR war, to husband Russia's resources, i.e., men, materials and energy and trying to keep the Russian economy as stable as possible even as Russia faces an eternal existential threat from the west, and needs to maintain a battle hardened, yet rested and rotated, armed forces. The goal is not for Russia to win, but rather not to lose.
Of course the western governments are too stupid, too bribed up, too hypocritical and too concerned about politics to realize what I think Putin quietly knows. Russia is sweating it out.
Things aren't as they seem. Putin's got his hands full.
But for sure, the West and NATO are salivating like a pack of hyenas to get at Russia's perceived natural resources and to draw and quarter it. And China, well, they are lurking like an assassin waiting to pounce if Russia stumbles, although things aren't going so swimmingly in China either. China is certainly NOT Russia's friend or ally. China is using Russia for now.
But war sure is a good distraction and/or an excuse for all this coming down the pike.
