When the USA falls it will be epic. Everyone is lazy so putting the bodies in the ground will be difficult if not impossible. The ensuing plague from rotting corpses will finish off the remaining population quickly. Pleasant thought, eh?
To be fair this could be said of any place once the dial tips over into SHTF territory. I wouldn't be surprised if most of Europe ends up like this. Having to watch your back every time you venture out and wondering if your house is safe. Or if your house is still yours when you come back from a trip and find squatters have more rights than you. Or the local ex-military/police commandeer your property because they feel like it and have more guns. Like they did in Russia when the Soviet Union collapsed.
It's good to train on an individual level, test your survival instincts and to better understand where your limits are, how far you will go, but at the end of the day, the zombies are going to group together in herds because that's what they do.
What Operation COVID did more than anything else was allow us to observe herd behavior in real time. My big takeaway was that you can't manage the herd or steer it. Only the managers can do that. And it's a complete waste of time trying to interact with individual zombie units thinking you'll somehow break it up.
So when it comes down to it you either get as far away from the herd activity as possible and wait for the inevitable or... you join it.
Just kidding but that's what the characters in The Walking Dead had to do to survive. To walk among the dead without being spotted. To move with the herd sometimes as a means of survival.
I think it's a great metaphor for how sometimes you have to blend in when outnumbered to get through a situation. Spies and double agents know this all too well. At times I felt like I was in a live remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers when nearby people would all turn simultaneously and point at the 'odd one out' with their mouths open or screeching rules that had been dumped into the wasteland of their sponge-like brains.
By the way, they've been filming the Walking Dead spinoff at my local beach for the past month. Haven't seen a single zombie or celeb actor. Just an old sailing boat that they dumped there for a scene and a few crew as they shack up in the local rentals. Seems like they're getting in a bucket list tour while they can as well. France, now Spain, then I think UK. Maybe they'll pop down to Italy next. Must be nice.
This book depicts what things look like when there is no govt police courts etc... the reason the Taleban was initially embraced because anything was better than what they had ... armed gangs on every block requiring $$$ to pass ...
Well at least you were able to hurl insults at them in the 80's. Fast (no pun intended) forward to our time and this dude in the UK is facing jail time for a much lesser offense.
I’d be wary of settling almost anywhere in Australia after seeing their draconian behavior over the last 5 years but you have recent first hand of both locales (nz and oz) so ymmv
Likewise Europe etc... the only place that did not put boot to neck was the USA... that's probably because there are loads of fellas armed to the death and provoking them might result in havoc that would topple BAU.
Once the dominoes start to fall... they will all fall ... in rapid succession.
I predict NZ will get an IMF bailout not because that country is a key pillar ... rather because it would spook the herd if one of their own crashed into a failed state..
It's ok if the Cubans implode... or Somalia.... but a Whitey country cannot be seen to fail... cuz then the other Whiteys will fear they are next... and fear ain't good for the economy
Having lived in Australia for nearly a year.... I periodically hear Aborigines wandering through our very white upscale neighbourhood screaming at each other... usually it appears to be a husband and wife duo have a fight.... it would appear to be impossible to bridge the divide....it's a chasm rather than a divide...
