As I walked along the Windjana gorge trail, I was befriended by an elderly couple from Sydney who were headed in the same direction. Madame Fast says I look like the most unfriendly, unapproachable person ever (I have the look of someone permanently pissed off, even when I am not, and arrogance drips visibly from my pores) yet the barnyard animals always approach me. Perhaps because I am a solo traveller they think I might be in need of friendship. Quite the opposite actually.

Or maybe some of them are looking for a 3rd for a threesome out back their caravan? I wonder if Super Snatch is currently touring the outback! What a horrifying thought.

Anyhow, the husband quickly works out that my accent is Canadian (and that I don’t fancy is old skin bag) and asks how I feel about Trump’s intention to make Canada an American state. I tell him that I don’t really follow any of this nonsense because it’s all pro wrestling intended to distract and amuse the mob.

He clearly did not buy that because he then proceeded to go on an epic rant about how Trump is a madman who has the power to do a lot of damage. This poor bastard has completely bought into the CNN-sponsored soap opera and believes it’s all real.

He then asked (and not rhetorically) why a country with over 300M people cannot find a decent candidate for president citing Trump and Biden as buffoons.

Surely given there are 300+M people America and thousands of suitable candidates for POTUS the answer to his question should be obvious. None of the qualified persons want to be water boys to the real power.

I suggest that perhaps those who really run America - and the world want flunkies who will do what they are told as President. And anyone who is competent would understand that POTUS is a figurehead role that would only appeal to those seeking fame and/or money. Basically it is a Hollywood acting role and most capable men and women have zero interest in being famous.

I then referenced a circus animal I played hockey with some years ago. He was a scholarship athlete at a US Ivy League school, captain of the ice hockey team, lawyer, MD level investment banker at a big US bank, Rhodes Scholar and has operated his own private equity fund for nearly two decades. He was approached to run for leader (if I recall correctly) the Liberal Party in Canada some years ago and quickly concluded he would have zero power so turned it down. He is not interested in fame and he already has fortune. I am going to assume Justin Trudeau, the drama teacher, was also tipped for the role and jumped all over it.

In a roundabout way I answered the moron’s stupid question but from the dumb look on his face he was not buying into the profound logic of Fast Eddy. Barnyard animals do not like the truth - they much prefer to be entertained.

Is there anyone who is not stupid? Are all humans opinions dictated by the Ministry of Truth? Are there no remaining humans who are capable of understanding/accepting logic?

Globally, we have passed the point where understanding the difference between the two economies is crucial to the survival of some semblance of civilisation. Unfortunately, those with the power of decision still operate according to embedded beliefs about the financial economy and with little grasp of the material economy which underpins it. Nowhere is this more apparent than here in the UK, where sprinkling newly borrowed currency is regarded as the solution to all ills… real and imagined.
